You know when you get those urges to spend or shop for looks at the beginning of a season? Well spot on with 2013 Spring literally here and me bumping into a great competition from EtailPR, on their blog (click here to read and join, if you want to) which, if I win (such a big IF) I can totally splurge  £200 on myself from In Love With Fashion… talk about a great way to kick start my spring. Ha! (fingers crossed) . Well anyway… regardless of the outcome (and I honestly mean it) I had a wonderful time creating this set. It’s basically my wishlist for this spring: black & white with some pops of color (love that long sleeve turquoise dress and the black & pink one), neutral super chic pencil skirt paired with an uber sporty crop tee, and animal print statement shoes!!! Plus the two reinvented and sophisticated versions of LBDs…  All set for the hot season!!!

Loafers For 2013 Spring? YES Or NO To The Comfy Shoe Trend?

black-loafersAs Spring slowly settles in and the sun graces us bit by bit with its beams, we slowly ditch our ankle boots & winter shoes for more summer’ish soles. And as every season has it… 2013 Spring will too bring us a new fashion trend. The Loafers, ladies! From the catwalk to the streets and to the posh feet of celebs these androgynous boy’ish flat pumps are making us forget the hot heels and channel our Tom-boys personas. As always my lovelies, I have to be honest with you… long long time ago I hated loafers. I thought of them as the ugliest shoes ever, who made my legs seem skinnier and made me look more shapeless. Truth is they’re a bit tricky and one can easily fall into the granny look with them (though if we look at the Olsens, that look is apparently quite trendy too, so… there you go). Or Taylor Swift for that matter. Sorry… but I find her style so boring for her age, and in her case, loafers are not helping at all. They’re too dull just like her outfit. So I guess the key is to find a balance: if you’re rocking an edgy or uber sophisticated look OPT for loafers as they will tone it down. Or keep it simple but add those details that make all the difference. olsens-loaferstaylor-swift-loafersFLYNET - Taylor Swift And Ed Sheeran Arrive At The Recording Studio In Santa Monicacoloured-loafers-fashion-trendloafers-2013-springcool-loafersToday I admit it: Loafers seduced me! Yes they are a bit masculine but NOW I love that, as I love the way they can easily blend and mix with so many other looks. Besides they are so comfortable, and contrary to belief (my past one that is) they look amazing with feminine clothes: dresses & skirts with or without tights. It gives you that boho-chic-innocent vibe. For a professional smart look, loafers are the best with trousers/skirts/dresses and a blazer on top. Keep them black for a basic smart look or go for printed or colored ones for a professional sophisticated style. I love the animal print ones and the bright colored ones. For a feminine look stay nude (ha! with your feet that is). Nude shoes elongate legs and make you look fab. To get that rich, sophisticated style don’t forget a cool bag, shades, a scarf and jewellery.

Office Look – Loafers Trend 2013 Spring 2013-loafers-styleblue=loafers-lookblack-stud-loaferskate moss 080709loafer-lookAlexa Chung Out And About In NYCloafers-trend (2)mint-loafersmint-studded-loafersstyle-loafersBasically they look great with anything from jeans to trouser-suit, from skirts to dresses, blazers to leather jackets, as they adapt to all these outfits and give a bit of masculine strength and that ‘je ne sais quoi‘ or effortless ‘I don’t care‘ attitude to the girl wearing them. And speaking of masculine… you can get your boyfriend/husband a pair, as they’re the new Shoe Trend for Men as well. You’ll look like those super bohemian-posh couples who dress alike and look gorgeous :) So I can see why Loafers are the new IT Shoe of 2013 Spring. We’re all probably so bored with the flat pumps and just sought a reinvented version of them. So why not our grannies’ shoes :) Joking! Oh and another thing… they come in heels too, but I’ll tell you all about that in another post. Today I’m feeling comfy and these loafers seems just the right thing!

So let’s get some fashion inspiration from some truly great street looks. Crop That Top!

rihanna-cropped-topSeems like Rihanna’s constant tummy display finally paid off and kicked in into one of the biggest trends of 2013. Yes dolls we gotta start working out BIG TIME to show off our mid riffs this season. And no… it’s not because of Riri’s mid riff obsession, although I suppose as a style icon she’s got a little input in there, but the Cropped Tops fad is quite an eclectic mix of circumstances that have led to it becoming a huge trend: a ’90′s reiteration of the cropped top, a retro take on the look (think Dolce & Gabbana), a classic vibe to it (think CHANEL tweed and boucle cropped jackets), an urban-glam twist to it, celebrity inspiration, sporty-chic style. All these are in. And it’s safe to say that when it comes to your own style and take on this trend the sky is the limit, and that’s 2013′s biggest asset: freedom to experiment, to get creative, to mix and match all of it with just one rule in mind – feeling & looking good! So eff those fashion restrictions and give in to: DIY cropped tops projects, bustiers, cropped funky jackets, cropped shirts, cropped sweaters… you know the drill. cropped-tops-designers-2013chanel-tweed-croppedjacketcropped-bustierscropped-t-shirt-cut-offsWhen discussing the Cropped Tops Trend it’s crucial to stretch out the fact that all is in: from the basic tank tops & t-shirts, to the retro bustiers and the classic-with-a-twist cropped jackets that are a fashion blessing for this time of the year all the way into late autumn. Isn’t it great when fashion has that comfy utilitarian side to it as well? Though let’s be honest here, if it didn’t, would anyone give a crap? Yeah… I thought so too. There’s nothing like suffering for the sake of looking great. Aha! We’ve all got those feet blisters and would rather freeze to death than not don a cropped top when it’s so fashionably required. :) So let’s take sides here then! croppedtop-classic-edgyThe Classic Cropped Look has got 2 major styles: The Cropped Jackets & The Cropped Sweaters. The trend comes in handy for the more office/work appropriate attire and can be stretched to pretty much any age (well at least the cropped jackets) as you can wear a longer shirt underneath it and play with shape and lengths, which will add quite a sophisticated note to the look. Besides the cropped jacket is pretty much a staple and works with ANYTHING: jeans, heels, boots, sandals, t-shirts, posh tops, clutches, bags, printed trousers, skirts, dresses, maxi & mini skirts… It looks chic, glam luxe and effortless. Which is what most of us are going for when dressing for work or important meetings. To get the classic take on cropped jackets have a look at Jennifer Lopez collection at Kohls (click here)Kohls-Jennifer Lopez-cropped-jacketKohls-Jennifer-Lopez-cropped-topIf you can’t yet part ways with your trench coat, denim or leather jacket, but you are dying to rock this trend ASAP… do not lose hope! Still how can you? Not with those crispy mornings you so hate. Stick to your longer jackets then and don a cool comfy and classic cropped sweater. YOON (click here for more) has got some amazing classic-meets-retro pieces that would look fantastic with high waisted skirts and trousers. And it would leave just a tiny bit of bare mid riff. Enough to get the look going. :)  yoon-cropped-sweateryoon-cropped-topFor some fashion inspiration check out these brilliant street style looks that I swear are just the right push we might need to get us started on this Cropped Jacket Trend. cropped-black-jacketCropped-Boucle-Jacketcropped-jacketcropped-jacket-dress-look (2)cropped-jacket-dress-lookcropped-jacket-street-stylecropped-jacket-stylecropped-jacket-trendleather-cropped-jacketstreet-style-cropped-jacketstreet-style-cropped-jacket-jeans-heelsstreet-style-cropped-shirtstreetstyle-cropped-toptrend-cropped-topThe Glam-Grunge Cropped Look is for those loving a bit of fashion edge (guilty as charged) & for those free weekends, for parties, for those days when you feel so fashion adventurous and want to break the style monotony. This is all about flipping the finger to fashion rules and giving in to the looking and feeling good temptations. Cropped tank-tops & t-shirts (that you might have chopped off yourself) are so rock’n roll with cut-offs, jeans and hot heels. Ah… think classic funky printed, crazy neon colored pumps! Statement necklaces or even better, body jewellery. That’s it! I’m hitting the shops this weekend! For laid back days don flat sandals, sneakers (you’ll be nailing the urban/sporty-chic style with these) and a sporty hat. For fashion inspo you do know who you have to check out, right? Rihanna. She’s the queen of urban-glam-boy-girl-posh-gangsta style. I know I’m bombarding you with her too often. Sorry. Promise this is the 1st and last time (this week). rihanna-cropped-top-2cropp-top-ririRihanna_PinkCropTop5Not a fan of the girl? No problemo! Here are a few street style looks to get you in the Cropped Tops mood (click here for more on this trend). And to the gym. Yeah… wouldn’t hold my breath on that one, I’m so lazy I’d rather just stick to the cropped jackets! :)  cropped-tank-top-street-stylecropped-shirt-stylecropped-teecropped-tee-skirt-heels-lookcropped-t-shirt-stylesmart-cropped-top-lookstreet-style-trend-cropped-topSo how about this Cropped Trend then? Are You Ready To… Ruffle?

street-style-rufflesAllow me to be slightly skeptical on this one. While the Ruffle Trend for 2013 Spring/Summer was huge (and amazing) on the catwalk (I’m still head over heels over Chloe, Gucci & Balenciaga‘s collections) I honestly feel that its transition to the streets has not made the fashion intended waves. Could it be that Ruffles are too ’80′s reminiscent? Or too girly? Or maybe it’s just me, because the 2013 ruffle reinterpretation is more architectural, structured and less frilly or borderline kitsch. Besides, today’s fashion main trait is that it allows us to get creative with a trend and mix it more easily into our style and personality. What we get then is a sea of Ruffle options: ruffled tops (busy or super subtle), ruffled skirts, dresses, shorts, bags, or even shoes… .  And that is fantastic especially for those who feel a bit overwhelmed by the idea of draping themselves in this flamenco attire. On the other hand a bit of ruffle will make an outfit more feminine and less stiff, making it look like you’re having loads of fun with fashion. The risk of looking like you’re stuck in your 80′s prom or channeling your inner clown might not be so inherent if you find that fashion balance. I know I always encourage everyone to fuck all fashion rules, but… there might just be a few cases when it’s better to be smart about it, rather than wild and flipping the bird all over the place. ruffle-trendSometimes balance is the keyHow To Balance Your Ruffles?

First of all, forget over-accessorizing (I’m getting all teary just thinking about it), if you don’t want to look like a psychedelic doll, that is. So, let’s begin with tops. Big ruffles that frame the face look great with your hair pulled back, and with the rest of your outfit rather simple. If the ruffles are silky, feminine and floaty, the top would probably look fab with jeans and heels (for a posh sophisticated look) of flats (ballet, loafers or brogues) for a bit more chic man-meets-woman look. Not too bad actually. You could probably done the top-ruffle-look for both office (with a pencil skirt or tapered trousers) or for out-of-work style, from going out evenings to summer beach looks, weekend strolls et all. Structured ruffles may be harder to pull off, but not impossible. Same architectural rules apply: keep your body balanced.

gucci-ruffle-topruffle-topsruffled-leather-jacket-street-styleruffles-look-editorialsruffle-tank-topruffle-top-lookruffle-trendruffle-trend-2013-catwalkOr you might just want to do ruffles on skirts which again is all about equilibrium, though I have to say, ruffle skirts sound much more appealing for some reason. My fave look: ruffled girly skirt balanced by a simple top and ankle boots. Sort of boho chic borderline rocknroll chick. ruffle-long-skirt-lookruffle-skirts-trendruffle-skirt-look (2)ruffle-skirt-lookruffle-trend-ruffled-skirtstreetstyle-ruffle-skirtstreet-style-ruffle-skirtruffles-trend-summer-2013And what about ruffle dresses? Now… in this case, forget all I said. (I know I can get slightly inconsistent). Summer ruffle short dresses look amazing! They’re both girly and sexy, both flirty and feminine and can go from morning to evening with any type of shoes. I simply adore a tiny dress in one color with floaty silky ruffles, tiny spaghetti strings and bare back. Stiletto sandals and a sexy attitude will complete this party look. ruffle-trend-2013-dressesruffle-dressruffle-dress-lookruffle-dress-styleruffle-dress-trend-2013ruffles-trend-2013ruffles-trend-catwalk-2013ruffle-style-dressruffle-trend-dress (2)ruffle-trend-dressstreet-style-ruffle-dressstreet-style-ruffle-dress-trendstreet-style-rufflesCan you ever get over-the-top with ruffles?

Well… yeah. If you’re a model in an editorial you can. Just have a look at the pics below and you might just (like myself) fall for the ruffle look. Big dresses with ruffled never-ending trains that cover entire stairs and floors look dramatic and beautiful. Yeah. We’ll be wearing those errr… wait. Never. ruffle-dress-look-2013ruffle-evening-dressruffle-look-2013-trendruffle-trend-2013Ruffles are THE trend this season all right, and though I can accept a few frills here and there, I’m not yet sold on this look. It tends to translate into a bit of a teenage look (which I’m light years distance from) and may look a bit too prom queen’ish for me, or too overwhelming. On the other hand ruffles may help create volume and curves where some of us were less blessed. So I guess it is a trend to keep an eye on. Which I might be doing in the hope that eventually (before the deadline expires, read Fall 2013) I get hooked. Though knowing myself I’ll probably be 2 steps behind this one. Debate-with-myself aside, I’m curious where all you lovely beauties stand on this one…
